Inhabitect, LLC Commits to Solar - A Case Study

Inhabitect is a full-service sustainable landscaping company based in northern Michigan. Their work takes place in the community, integrating ecological-minded landscaping and design into our region’s beautiful downtowns, business parks, and exciting new developments. It’s no surprise that Inhabitect would prioritize renewable energy for its design office. The results were certainly satisfying, however! 

Meet Inhabitect

Inhabitect is based in Cedar, Michigan, but serves several surrounding communities. With marquee projects in Traverse City and throughout Leelanau County, founder and president Nathan Griswold brings more than two decades of experience in sustainable landscaping, green roof technologies, and design to every client. 

The firm brings nature-based solutions to existing and new property developments, implementing ecological-minded landscaping and green stormwater infrastructure. 

The Solution

While Inhabitect’s work is highly visible in the community, its home office is a crucial part of the design, planning, and logistical aspects of operations. Their facilities’ team contacted Keen for an in-depth feasibility study and highlighted a few solar project objectives:

• Reduce utility costs

• Lower on-site emissions

• Increase property value

These priorities guided our work, and we’re proud to share the results. 

Inhabitect’s Solar Project, By-the-Numbers

Our custom-designed array is forecast to generate 14,447 kWh annually, with peak production exceeding 1,000 kWh hours every month from March through September each year. In 2025, Inhabitect’s solar array will offset more than 10 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) and preserve the equivalent of 12 acres of forestland. 

Importantly, Keen helped source and utilize grant and tax credits to offset 90% of the project costs. 40% of the project will be offset by federal tax credits, with another 50% covered by the USDA’s REAP Grant program.
